i like you like i like the moon
ever-present, circling my small earth but still
half-turned away from
this world,
me, left with little but the soft sweep
of your voice to cherish. a brilliant
curve of light; i follow you through the dark. you are
uncertain; no
you are all certain; you, the unending
daughter
a sickly prophet, laughing at the sky around you.
all wildness and patience
calling to the wolves that know you, and your
white pelt more warm
than summer, eying coolly
the stars at your back. my gravity worships you
and it is mutual- keeping our circular movements close enough
to ensure you won't be forgotten, left in freefall
to the chill of night.
airless
you betray me,
i betray you.
out of your light i am invisible
and your leaving would stop the very currents of the sea
but in the in the someday without us
when the sun expands and there are no edges left between our orbits
it is all just empty space.
